A balanced content mix is a set of useful roles, not a fixed ratio of “education, entertainment, promotion.” Choose the roles that answer the audience’s questions and fit the business’s capacity to respond.
Assign each post a job
Use a mix such as:
- Explain: remove one misunderstanding.
- Demonstrate: show a real process or product behavior.
- Compare: expose a decision trade-off without hiding limitations.
- Respond: answer a repeated question or service concern.
- Invite: make one relevant next action clear.
Review the last 20 posts and label each by reader job, audience question, market, evidence type, and next step. If ten posts all ask for contact, the mix is promotion-heavy regardless of how different the designs look. If every post explains basics, add proof, comparison, or a route to action.
Choose the balance from evidence
Use comment questions, support themes, service capacity, and performance signals as inputs. Do not let likes alone determine the calendar. For a bilingual MENA audience, note which posts are Egyptian-specific, Gulf-specific, or broadly useful; avoid dressing a local example as regional advice.
Set a review window and ask whether each role produced the intended useful behavior: saves, substantive questions, profile visits, or a completed next step. Keep the role if it helps; change it if the audience task has shifted. A ratio is a planning aid, not a universal formula.
Optional AI-assisted work brief — Content mix balance sheet
Classify planned content by audience need, journey stage, proof type, creator effort, and intended action. Identify over-representation, missing education or trust evidence, and repeated claims. Balance the mix by purpose rather than forcing a fixed percentage. Keep an experimental slot for emerging questions and a maintenance slot for updating useful evergreen material.
Worked example — Find the missing content job
A week of promotional posts may cover offers but not explain the service or prove its claims. Map the last month by audience question and journey stage. Add a demonstration, objection answer, or behind-the-scenes process only where it supplies evidence. Do not force an arbitrary “80/20” ratio; use the mix that answers real questions sustainably.
AI disclosure: AI tools assisted with drafting. This content mix is a planning example, not a benchmark.
